Women of the Mecca: Karyl + Joy

This installment of Women at the Mecca features two powerful models on campus. They are both apart of the organization Models of The Mecca. I encouraged a monochromatic cholor scheme based on both of their hair colors and they both executed it beautifully!

Women of The Mecca: Kamaria

This photoshoot is taking a little bit of a different approach to my normal style. I was inspired by Petra Collins’ style, specifically in the Fetish by Selena Gomez music video for this shoot along with Jerry Maestas’ and overall a vintage/90s inspired look. Below you can see my moodboard I used to inspire this shoot.

This is the first photoshoot in Women of The Mecca and as I continue further there will be more to accompany it.

The model is Kamaria, @29sins on Instagram

Shooting with Color Film

I finally got my film developed, scanned and edited! It was a little weird to not be able to see my shot instantly since I haven’t shot on film for over 2 years. I really love how the film gives the images such a unique color tone that I don’t even know how I would achieve digitally. However, some of my film came out a bit messed up but I think it’s part of the learning curve. I’m excited to hopefully shoot some more rolls soon!

I shot with Portra 400 on my Canon film camera.

Sunset Portraits

I shot these images over a month ago and I’m still as in love with them as I was when I shot them. The complimentary colors of the sunset are my favorite part of the entire shoot. I hope you enjoy this set of images!

The film versions of this photoshoot will be coming soon

Vintage Photoshoot

Recently I’ve been missing the precision and vintage feel that film brings to each of my images so I purchased some Kodak Portra 400 film and scheduled a shoot. After having to develop all of my own rolls, not understanding the manual setting on my film camera and constantly smelling like developer had I drifted away from shooting with film my Sophomore year of high school. However, I wasn’t completely confident in my film abilities because I haven’t shot with film in over two years so I brought along my digital camera. I wanted my digital images to also have a vintage quality so I diy-ed a lens filter.

I placed a piece of clear saran wrap on my camera lens and attached it with a rubber band. Next, I added a thin layer of vaseline around the outside of my lens creating a frame around the lens opening and slowly building up to my desired opaqueness. With much trial and error, I created the perfect amount of haze and began shooting.

I was inspired by photographers Jerry Maestas and Samuel Elkins for this photoshoot if you would like to see my mood board click here!!

Morgan Wedding

I recently had enough time to re-edit my images from a wedding I shot about a year ago. I was never happy with the edits I created but with hard drive malfunctions and learning how to edit I wasn’t able to edit them the way I liked until now. I shot this wedding alongside another wedding photographer, Kristin Carrigan, to earn some wedding experience. As I’m shooting another wedding for experience late this October I felt as though this was a good time to post these images. As you can probably tell I love black and white for my wedding portraits, I feel as though the lack of color conveys more of a romantic story than a color photograph.
